Could go back to Jakarta the same day for an early evening flight, but I didn't need the stress. Would be a shame to spend so much money and not have good weather. This is the reason I stress the overnight on the island. Awoke the next morning for another hike, beautiful blue skies and great photos. Can't complain much, but a bit more cushioning and pillow would make sleeping much easier. No cushion except a thin bed roll and the sand underneath. Good spot to imagine how big Krakatau was in 1883 before the main eruption. And can see the surrounding islands quite well. You get a real idea of how active this volcano is here. Hiked to the first rim, next to the February 2012 lava flow. Arrived at Krakatau Anak, the active volcano. Didn't matter to me, but if this is your thing, might want to inquire further. Snorkeling is included in the trip, but water wasn't clear when I was there. Decent box lunch of fried chicken and rice.

On arrival to Krakatau, had some lunch on a black sand/ash beach and swam a bit. Minor point, but something that can be improved. One thing that was a bit off, ice melted in the coolers pretty quickly, so drinks were luke warm from about 5p onward until the return to Carita. Even filled my special request of Coke Zero. Before the trip, I contacted Thom about special dietary needs - they accommodated me. Thom can book the hotel for you, though by the looks of it, they rarely are sold out. Again, I recommend spending a few extra days so you are well rested, feeling good for a trip that requires quite a bit of time and money. Stayed the night before and after the trip at the Rakata Hotel, near the tour operator's office. It took 4 hours to Carita Beach and 3 hours return, completely dependent upon traffic, which can be awful. Picked up and dropped at Jakarta Airport in a brand new SUV.

Also, the larger your group, the cheaper the per person cost, up to 6 people. I didn't really have a great photo day on the mountain until the early morning, but to be fair, I visited in rainy season. I took the 2 day/1 night camping trip, which I would highly recommend over the day trip due to little price difference and the unpredictability of the weather. I'm going to spend a lot of time on this review, providing as much detail of the trip as possible, as it's not easy to find the information online. Do a Google search and you will find my guide. First, the website that is linked to this attraction is not the only tour operator and I used Krakatau Adventure and Thom, so this review is unrelated to the link above.
